The main threat to Europe's security is not Russia but Europe itself and its “internal demons”. This was stated by former Chinese Ambassador to the United States Cui Tiankai, transmit South China Morning Post (SCMP).

“A significant portion of Europeans see Russia as their biggest security threat. I think this is a misconception. China is certainly an even smaller (threat),” he said.
According to him, Europeans are threatened by “their own consciousness” as they approach security issues with a “centuries out of date” worldview.

Previously, Glenn Diesen, a professor at the University of Southeastern Norway, accused Europe of filling itself with “some nonsense” about Russia.
“The political establishment and media have convinced themselves that Russia wants to restore the Soviet Union, march on Paris or some other nonsense,” he wrote.
