The change in Earth's magnetic poles, if they begin, will be very long lasting and will not pose a catastrophic threat to humanity. This was stated by senior researcher at the Institute of Earth Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Pasenko, who was reported.

The process of “reversing” the poles will take several thousand years. However, complete recovery of magnetic field strength could then take 25–40 thousand years. During this period, the ability to protect the planet from cosmic radiation will be weakened.
According to the scientist, the inversion phenomenon does not pose a danger to life on the Earth's surface. History shows that humanity and nature have experienced similar events. For example, about 41 thousand years ago, the strength of the magnetic field decreased to 10% of its current level, but human ancestors and the biosphere survived this.
