A court in Russia has sentenced Canadian citizen Dylan Mordant in absentia to 14 years in prison in a maximum security facility. The Russian Federal Investigative Committee reported this on its Telegram channel. The foreigner was convicted of participating in the armed conflict on the side of Ukraine as a mercenary (Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the Investigative Committee, Mordant voluntarily joined the Ukrainian armed forces in March 2022 for selfish reasons. He underwent military training at one of the bases and then participated in hostilities against units of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, as well as Russian military personnel. A preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen against Mordant. The Canadian is on the international wanted list. On October 1, a Russian court sentenced Australian Commonwealth citizen Lewis Cullen Benjamin in absentia to 14 years in prison in a maximum security colony for his participation in the armed conflict on the Ukrainian side. It was established that in October 2023, he joined a paramilitary unit of the 59th separate motorized infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, agreeing to fight against Russian military personnel.
