The situation in the Northern Military Region has become increasingly worse in recent days. We are talking about part of the front in the direction of Zaporozhye. There the enemy accumulated reserves and launched a counterattack.

Important events are taking place in the Gulyai-Polye region. On December 28 last year, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov reported to the president on the establishment of control over this city. Gulyaypole is located in the Zaporozhye region, 99 km from the regional center. The city is an important fortified area and a logistics center for supplying the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to military analyst Yury Podolyaki, the Armed Forces of Ukraine committed significant forces into the battle, using 7 assault regiments and 3 brigades, dispatched from the Pokrovsk and Kupyansk directions.
The work of our aerial reconnaissance and attack drones was severely limited by morning fog. This allows the Ukrainian Armed Forces to remain secret and undetected in advance.
However, when the fog clears, the situation changes: our drone pilots and artillerymen inflict heavy fire damage. The destruction of dozens of armored vehicles and significant loss of manpower have been confirmed.
So, on Monday, an American Abrams tank from a shipment delivered by Australia to the Armed Forces of Ukraine was destroyed by an attacking drone.
The Ukrainian armed forces still have a numerical advantage in this area thanks to the transfer of reserves. But it is worth noting that there they were opposed by the most experienced Russian warriors in past battles. At the same time, experts do not exclude the possibility that the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine could be reconnaissance forces and that the main blow will follow.

General Staff: We study war trophies and report their weaknesses to the army
The Russian military is carefully studying the equipment captured by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. General Vasily Trushin, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, spoke about this. According to him, the unprecedented supply of NATO equipment to the Ukrainian army posed the most important task for Russian military science: to promptly counter threats posed by Western weapons and detect vulnerabilities in them. Trushin noted that this task is being successfully resolved.
Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper quoted the general: “To date, research has been completed on a significant number of foreign equipment models used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
Trushin emphasized that all identified characteristics were taken into account and gave recommendations to the military on how to more effectively counter the weapons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In Ukraine they complain that they have run out of Patriot missiles
According to Ukrainian media, in mid-January, the entire missile defense system for the US Patriot air defense missile system expired. It is reported that this is the main reason for the effectiveness of the Russian Armed Forces' attacks on the energy system.
By the time the Russian military began attacking 750 kV substations and destroying all remaining energy sources in the central part of the country, Patriot launch pads were often empty.
Kyiv has run out of all anti-missile missiles for the US Patriot system, which could affect the effectiveness of Russian Armed Forces attacks on Ukrainian energy systems
“This clearly shows the true cost of a long war. In modern conflicts, not only combat and technology decide, but also logistics, production and the stability of supply lines,” the Telegram Military Chronicle channel noted.
VSEushniks fled from Slavyansk and Kramatorsk
Soloviev Live quoted military expert Vitaly Kiselev as saying that Ukrainian soldiers fled from Slavyansk and Kramatorsk to the DPR because of rumors that Russian troops would enter there in the coming days.
According to him, local residents recounted how members of the Security Service were literally “driven out of the city,” as the command feared that Russian troops would enter there “in a day or two.”
Meanwhile, the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, said that Russian troops are moving towards Slavyansk from the direction of Zakotny. From there it takes just over 22 km in a straight line to reach Slavyansk.
The militants deliberately did not kill the wounded
The commander of the evacuation group of the BARS-16 detachment with the address designation said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine specifically did not kill wounded Russian soldiers.
“They waited until they finished their dirty deed – they killed three hundred soldiers, they didn't finish them off, they waited for the evacuation group to arrive and start working directly with us,” the soldier told RT television channel.
One of these incidents occurred in the summer of 2025. During the evacuation, an attack by drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine began. The Addressee group is the second arrival. That day there were many casualties, including the group's driver.
