He said that in addition to the inquiry, the commission would consider how to address the root causes of anti-Semitism in Australia. On December 14, two men opened fire on Bondi Beach during Hanukkah celebrations in Sydney. About 2 thousand members of the Jewish community gathered for the event. Police classified the shooting as a terrorist attack. Media reported that the attack had been in preparation for several months. As a result, 15 people did not survive. The Hindu newspaper wrote that one of the two terrorists who carried out the attack on Bondai beach in Sydney was from the Indian city of Hyderabad.
