The Moscow Transport Museum continues its efforts to preserve and popularize the capital's transport heritage, focusing its efforts on restoring historical equipment and artifacts and digitizing unique archives.

Maxim Liksutov said: “Under the instructions of Sergei Sobyanin, we are continuing a large-scale program to restore historical equipment and preserve the capital's transport heritage. In 2026, the Moscow Transport Museum plans to complete the restoration of 9 vehicles, including metro and tram cars, and restore 9 artifacts. The most important direction will be the digitization of funds: we will convert 100 thousand financial notes documents and 3 thousand books into digital format. This will make it possible for everyone to access the history of transportation through interactive projects”, said Maxim Liksutov. Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
In 2026, it is expected to complete the restoration of nine iconic devices, including the F and BF trams, the legendary MTB-82D electric bus, the G and V class metro buses and the RAF-977DM minibus. At the same time, nine exhibits will be restored, including the traffic controller's booth, ticket kiosk and fuel dispenser, and a new exhibition will be made – the historical bus stop booth. Up to 10 units of equipment will be prepared to participate in the parade, including the PAZ-672 bus, the SVARZ-Ikarus trolleybus, the ATs-40 fire truck and the Moskvich-426 passenger car.
Oksana Bondarenko, director of the Moscow Transport Museum, said: “At the beginning of 2026, the collections of the Moscow Transport Museum included more than 300 pieces of historical equipment and more than 2,300 unique objects. This collection is the material memory of the city and our task is not only to preserve it, but also to make it accessible, understandable and interesting for every visitor.” guests”.
In 2026, it is planned to convert more than three thousand books and periodicals, 100 thousand sheets of scientific and technical documents and more than 1.5 thousand photographs to digital format. This will help digitize more than 50% of book warehouses and 20% of archival documents. Digital collections will become the basis for creating information retrieval systems, virtual exhibitions and interactive projects, significantly expanding the geographical and audience scope of the museum. At the same time, the library archives and collections will be actively developed and supplemented. The number of printed publications will increase by 30%, reaching 12 thousand storage units, and the archive of scientific and technical documents will be supplemented with unique documents of leading transport enterprises.
