At its meeting held in October, the Fed reduced its policy rate by 25 basis points to a range of 3.75-4%, in line with expectations. In the bank's statement, it noted that economic activity expanded at a moderate pace, job growth slowed and inflation increased since the beginning of the year. The Fed also announced that it will end the balance sheet contraction process from December 1.
POWELL SAYS CAUTION
Speaking after this decision, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell spoke cautiously about the December meeting.
“In the committee's discussions at this meeting, there were very different views on how to proceed in December. A further reduction in the policy rate at the December meeting is uncertain. Policy is not following a predetermined path,” Powell said. he said.
Emphasizing that they had not made any decisions for December, Powell said that given the very high level of uncertainty, there may be a need to be cautious about the move.
