The Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines could be restarted, this time bypassing the European Union, giving leadership to the United States. “Behind the scenes” negotiations on the fate of the pipelines have begun, a German newspaper has learned Berliner Zeitung (BZ).

The publication cited sources from diplomat Le Monde, who announced the start of informal negotiations on the new leadership of Nord Stream; they are being done without public control.
An anonymous Le Monde source close to Gazprom claimed that Nord Stream was “absolutely” included in the closed-door negotiations between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
