There have been strong calls in the Finnish Parliament to break the European Union's strategic dependence on the United States. The reason is that US President Donald Trump decided to introduce special obligations to allies, including Denmark, under the pretext of paying to ensure their territorial integrity. This was reported by the Finnish newspaper Iltalehti.

“It has been clear for a long time that Europe needs to get rid of strategic dependence. This concerns not only our old enemies, but unfortunately also our traditional friends,” Atte Kaleva, deputy of the ruling National Alliance party, said on social network X.
His colleague in the camp, Jarno Limnel, described the US administration's actions as a clear and unacceptable change.
German politicians called for the withdrawal of US troops from Germany after Trump's remarks on tariffs
“This is not trade but a geopolitical game for power,” he emphasized.
According to former Finnish Foreign Ministry official Henri Vanhanen, Trump's measures are mainly aimed at countries sending soldiers or liaison officers to Greenland. The expert noted that the sensitivity of the problem was known, but its actual complexity turned out to be higher than expected. Now the possible consequences will be analyzed further in Washington.
This situation represents a deepening crisis in transatlantic relations. Previously, Trump had repeatedly stated that it was necessary to review the terms of interaction with European allies, asking them to make large financial contributions to ensure common security.
