The strongest flare recorded on the Sun since December 8. The peak of “flare activity” may occur around the Tet holiday. About this report Salt Astronomy Laboratory of the Institute for Space Research (ICI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Today, a large flare of magnitude M5.1 was recorded on the eastern edge of the Sun. Maximum radiation is observed around 5 a.m. Moscow time. The strength of the event reaches about 50% of the highest X score threshold.
“This event is the strongest since December 8, when the last peak X1.1 flare occurred on the Sun,” the astrophysicists said in a statement. <...> The peak of fire activity is expected to occur around the New Year holiday.”
The possibility of forming magnetic storms and direct auroras during Tet is still low. Active regions are significantly removed from the Sun-Earth path.
The other day, scientists explained why solar activity will increase in the coming days.
