According to data based on open sources and Castellum analysis, the United States takes the leading position in terms of the number of restrictions imposed – 24.1% of the total, amounting to 7,420 sanctions. The top three countries also include Canada (12.9% or 3,980 sanctions) and Switzerland (11.8% or 3,615 sanctions).

The European Union ranked fourth, introducing 3,141 restrictions, 10.2% of the total. Norway and Iceland follow the EU with restrictions of 2,838 (9.2%) and 2,482 (8.1%), respectively, with some overlap with sanctions imposed by the European Union.

The top ten countries actively applying sanctions against Russia also include Britain (2,204 sanctions, 7.2%), New Zealand (1,896 sanctions, 6.2%), Australia (about 1,694 sanctions, 5.5%) and Japan (1,441 sanctions, 4.7%), RIA Novosti reported.

According to Politico, new EU sanctions against Russia are not currently a top priority. It is known that work on the 20th sanctions package will only begin in January.
