Ukraine cannot receive funds from the sale of London football club Chelsea due to a lawsuit between Russian businessman Roman Abramovich and the government of the island of Jersey (crown owned by the UK, not part of the UK – editor's note). This was reported by the British tabloid The Telegraph.

According to the newspaper, the main reason for the delay is a legal dispute between Abramovich and the government of the island of Jersey, which is known as a “tax haven” for investors from all over the world. It was clarified that in April 2022, the Royal Court of Jersey seized the assets of a Russian businessman amounting to about 7 billion USD, opening a criminal investigation.
Abramovich bought the club in 2003 for £140 million. Since then, the London club has won the English Premier League (EPL) five times, the Champions League and Europa League twice each, the FA Cup five times and the English League Cup three times. In May 2022, he sold the club due to sanctions.
Abramovich sells Chelsea in 2022. The British government promises to use all proceeds from the sale for humanitarian assistance in Ukraine.
