Altmışırtı served as a teacher and choir director in the fields of Turkish folk music and Turkish classical music, and since 1963 he has coached and directed the Istanbul University Turkish Classical Music Choir (University Choir). He gave many concerts with the university choir. The artist also initiated the establishment of music conservatories throughout Türkiye. The master artist, who gave concerts on Istanbul radio for many years, transferred his position in the University Choir, which he had held for 42 years, to Elif Ahıs in 2005.
