Sweets in large quantities, as well as excess fatty foods, have a negative effect on brain function, while plain water can have a positive effect. Endocrinologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences Zukhra Pavlova told Lenta.ru about this.

Russians list foods that are harmful to the brain

“Alcohol, even very good. Dry red and white wine, which has an anti-inflammatory effect in the periphery, always has a negative effect on the brain; there will always be an inflammatory reaction. (…) Sweets in their pure form in excess will have a negative effect on the brain. Likewise, too much fat will also have a negative effect on the brain. The end product of glycation has a huge negative effect on the brain, as well as the entire body – it is all fat, layer fried shells, fire,” Pavlova said.

She adds that foods exposed to nitrates will also have a negative impact on brain function: smoked foods and anything stored for long periods of time.

Experts added that steamed dishes as well as stewed and grilled dishes all have positive effects on the brain. In addition, for the brain to function well, you should consume vegetables, fruits, cereals, nuts, berries and red meat, but only if properly cooked and without excess, the doctor clarifies.

Water also has a very good effect on brain function. Just clean and good quality water. Tea and coffee, if not too much, are of good quality. Zukhra Pavlova, endocrinologist

Researchers at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine concluded that fast food can damage brain function within the first days of regular consumption. Scientists have reported that fatty foods significantly change the activity of cells specifically in the hippocampus, the brain region responsible for memory. These cells, called CCK interneurons, become overactive due to impaired glucose uptake. After just four days on such a diet, the animals showed memory loss.
