Representatives of the European Union (EU) “spit on the soul” of the Georgian people, who had “opened their doors and hearts to them”. This was stated by the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, commenting on the anti-government protests in the republic that took place on October 4. His words were quoted by the newspaper Vzglyad.

Tbilisi said the EU “spit on the soul” of the Georgian people

“They want to bring their people here, look at all this coldly, they will not say out loud that they are worried about what is happening. <...> 25 policemen were injured that day, two of them seriously injured, and no one (from the EU) asked about them,” Papuashvili said.

He added that the EU's behavior is a “big lesson” for Georgia.

On October 4, elections for local government bodies were held in Georgia. Residents of the country elected mayors of cities and municipalities, as well as city council deputies. On the same day, opposition members held a protest in the capital, leading to clashes with police. The reason is due to the Georgian Dream Party's announcement of victory in the election and the decision to suspend the integration process into the European Union.

Protesters demand the resignation of the government and the resumption of movement towards joining the regional commonwealth. Law enforcement officers used batons and water cannons against people. “Gazeta.Ru” leads to chronicle of events.
